About

Welcome to this site, which contains a broad cross-section of my photos.
An amateur photographer, I live with my wife in West Wales, where we run a smallholding with sheep and poultry. The counties around us of Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire abound with landscapes, woodlands, river valleys and coast line. But probably my main interest lies in photographing people, their activities and their artefacts. I am attracted to ordinary, everyday subjects particularly the mark that man leaves on the earth’s surface, whether in town or countryside.

My interest in photography started with a Kodak box camera in the ‘50s. I became interested in black and white in the late ‘60s and bought a Praktica Nova, which lasted until 1985, when I upgraded to an Olympus OM2n. Before a posting to Chile in 1997, I changed to an Olympus OM1.

I kicked off in digital photography in 2001 with a Sony DSC 707, a robust camera that served me well. In 2004 I bought an Olympus E-1 DSLR, partly to solve the problem of shutter lag but also because I wanted an SLR again. If one wants a camera that is rugged but comfortable to use all day long, it is hard to beat. The Zuiko lenses made for the ‘Four thirds’ format of the E1 are superb.

Please enjoy the photos and feel free to make any comments.
